John’s Place

Today we ventured out of the city and headed to Monterey Bay, to have a look at the Fisherman’s Wharf and the famous cannery row.   I’m not sure how much commercial fishing is carried out there anymore but the tourist trade is alive and well.

And you’ll never guess but I found some hats tucked away waiting for me.

The 17 mile drive is a privately maintained scenic drive around Pebble Beach.  It is a beautiful drive but don’t try to take your motor cycle there as they are prohibited.

Here’s a couple of photos:

And the local golf course that you may have heard of has a pretty interesting par 3. What you don’t see here is the tee-off location to the right.

We also came across a number of these little guys.

And then there was this Cypress tree which has made its home on this rock for the past 250 years.

Then from there we made our way to the garlic capital, Gilroy, for a spot of outlet shopping.  Luckily they have installed the latest in hubby minding facilities.

The other thing that caught my eye was the strawberry plantations.

Now we are back at the hotel playing tetris with our bags and all our new stuff.

Trucks – it’s interesting to note that all the big trucks here (well the ones I’ve seen) only have 2 axles on the trailer and not the typical 3 like they have in Australia.  Whether that’s because of a speed limit applied to triple axle trailers or a weight restriction I don’t really know.  If I think about it I may enquire further.
