Yosemite National Park – Sat 13 July

From Paso Robles we headed north east to Fresno and through Yosemite National Park before heading west to San Francisco.  It maybe a long way for a shortcut but we really wanted to take in some of the American landscape.   And today did not disappoint!

What was interesting was the changes in the landscape.

From farming flats with lots of crops, orchards,  and vineyards.  To land that looked very barren.

And then onto Yosemite National Park

After we entered the park from the south gate near Fresno we made our way to Glacier Point … which was spectacular!

And then all the way down to the Valley floor to look back up at the rock formations and the cool mountain streams in the valley.  Beautiful!
I’m told that with binoculars you should be able to see the climbers who actually camp on the side of the cliff on the way up!  You certainly wouldn’t want to sleep walk!

from the valley floor we made our way out of Yosemite via the park’s north exit.  Here is a map –

On our way out of the park we stopped in at the Ranger station and they had some hats.

By this time it was nearly 5 pm and a long time since breakfast so we found a beautiful little Cafe in a little town called Groveland called Dori’s tea cottage to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

Here’s a few pictures from Groveland’s main street.

We did find a great bike road between Groveland and Moccisin, beautifully surfaced road with nice flowing corners.

And then onto San Francisco where we were greated with this view from our hotel room.

You don’t really realise that you have an accent until everyone picks where you’re from within a couple of words.

This sparked quite a bit of conversation in the car with Megan joking that we should say “gidday where from India” to see what sort of reaction we’d get.

  1. Ok – just a tad green jelly you two. Yosemite is on my Bucket LIst! Have a wonderful time my friends. Deb – you have worked so hard to get where you are, and it’s wonderful to be able to share a little of the adventure (thanks, Glen!) Enjoy every moment… big hugs, Marion

  2. Loving the updates, Glen. Glad that Yosemite measured up to the hype I gave it. That Moccasin – Goveland rd made me a little weak at the knees when I dove up there too and there are plenty of others just as good all through there! Bike tour anyone?
